What is K2?

This newly discovered crystal is found at the base of the second highest mountain in the world, K2, which borders Pakistan and China. K2 has a white or gray Granite base with large spots of blue Azurite and small black specks. Geologists believe that K2 forms when Granite hardens and fuses with Azurite droplets in a secondary melt.

The K2 mountain’s s rugged, snowy climate make mining this stone very difficult, so it is extremely rare. Some crystal collectors refer to K2 as “Raindrop Azurite,” “K2 Granite,” or “K2 Jasper,” even though the stone has no relation to Jasper. Although K2 was discovered very recently, Azurite has a long history, dating back to the Ancient Greeks and the Mayan civilization.
