What is Prehnite?

First discovered in 1788 near the Cape of Good Hope, Prehnite is a beautiful green Silicate crystal that usually forms in large clusters and stalactites. It frequently develops Epidote inclusions, and it can also be found in yellow, white, and gray. There is even an extremely rare orange variety, although it only comes from South Africa’s N’chwaning mine, and the supply was completely exhausted by 2002. Prehnite owes its name to Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, a Dutch official who was the governor of the Netherlands’ Cape Colony in the 1780s.
