Easter Eggs

You’re never too old for a traditional egg hunt. As adults, we’ve swapped plastic eggs for crystal ones, and we want to show you why!

Crystal Egg Symbolism

Eggs symbolize life. Life begins with an egg, and when you work with crystal eggs, you tap into the energy of new beginnings and creativity. Because eggs are strongly associated with fertility, they obviously have strong ties to parenthood, but they are also the perfect tool to help you “give birth” to anything: creative endeavors, career prospects, abundance, and new hobbies or projects. No matter where you are in your life, you can look to crystal eggs for hope and inspiration.

Our Favorite Crystal Eggs

The first step to a new beginning is letting go of the past. That is where a Black Obsidian egg comes into play. Black Obsidian is a very honest and introspective stone, helping you look within to acknowledge your negative emotions, discover their source, and release them. This egg can also give you the courage to walk away from toxic habits, people, and situations. As a result, you will be free to craft the life you want.

A Lepidolite egg helps you make the most of this new beginning. Lepidolite is a stone of emotional healing and transformation. Its gentle energies teach you to trust in the divine plan and align yourself with the highest good for all. Lepidolite also expands your consciousness for both greater self-awareness and spiritual wisdom.

Rose Quartz eggs are perfect gifts for weddings, baby showers, and children’s birthdays. Rose Quartz resonates strongly with the creative energy of the divine feminine; its tender vibrations show you how to create the life of your dreams, based on emotional health and genuine passion. Newly married couples can use Rose Quartz eggs to build a new, abundant life together, and children find Rose Quartz’s energy very calming and nurturing.

The ultimate crystal egg is Ruby Kyanite. Ruby Kyanite eggs are such a powerful combination of crystals and shapes that we typically have more than one kind in stock! Ruby is a stone of passion, and it inspires you to chase your creative passions. When paired with Kyanite’s balancing properties, Ruby Kyanite keeps you both emotionally and mentally stable as you achieve your dreams. Ruby Kyanite is the embodiment of the egg’s potential.

How to Use Crystal Eggs

Crystal eggs are the perfect tool for meditation, and they also make great décor. Place your crystal egg wherever you are looking for extra inspiration, whether it’s your desk, the kitchen, or the bedroom.

Whatever you are looking to create in your life, crystal eggs are here to help!

The Evil Eye: Folk Magic or Fiction?

The folk legend of the evil eye is over 5,000 years old and spans across cultures, religions, and continents. As they say, “the eyes of the window of the soul,” and myths around the world suggest that eyes have the power to hurt someone in a very real way.

But what is the evil eye? Why do people choose to wear it? And, most importantly for us, what does the evil eye have to do with crystals?

What is the Evil Eye?

The evil eye has been found all over the world, but its origins likely date to the ancient Middle East. However, it quickly spread, appearing in Ancient Greece, the Bible, Shakespeare, and even modern pop culture (think the Eye of Sauron in Lord of the Rings).

The evil eye is the concept that a malicious gaze can cause real harm, even death. The evil eye is usually motivated by jealousy, and it can be cast both knowingly and unintentionally. After all, most modern witches will tell you that the crux of magic is clarifying an intent and sending it out into the universe. So long as the intent is strong and specific, the universe will hear it—whether you meant for it to or not.

Traditionally, the effects of the evil eye manifested in symptoms like loss of appetite, insomnia, depression, fatigue, and fever. It was also thought to affect the person’s possessions, causing crops or plants to wither, food to spoil, and objects to break or be lost.

Historically speaking, children, animals, and pregnant women were thought to be most susceptible to the evil eye. Someone might resent the boundless possibility and innocence a child represents, or they might seek to hurt a family through its weakest member. Animals, which are a physical manifestation of wealth in an agrarian society, might draw the evil eye of someone who envies another’s success.

Whether you buy into the legends or not, it is true that envy causes harm. How many times have you had a friendship devolve because a “friend” envied your success? Have you ever had a work colleague shoot down your ideas or refuse to collaborate because of jealousy?

So how do you avoid the evil eye? A wide variety of folk traditions have sprung up around the idea. In medieval Europe, praise was considered a certain way to attract the evil eye, so people avoided compliments to themselves, their children, or their possessions. In a similar vein, some Asian cultures will rub their children’s faces with dirt to hide them from the evil eye.

However, there is one ancient tool that is still powerful and useful today: the evil eye pendant.

Known as a nazar, the evil eye amulet is a colored circle around the image of an eye. It is a talisman meant to ward of the evil eye curse, and it has been used for centuries.

Modern interpretations of the evil eye pendants have woven in color associations for added protection. Not only do evil eyes deflect curses, but they can also be used to invite goodness into your life.

Evil Eye Crystals and Amulets

Each color of the evil eye has a specific metaphysical association, and they resonate well with specific crystals. These crystals enhance your evil eye talisman in a variety of ways. You can purchase an evil eye that incorporates a crystal, but you can also wear an evil eye pendant with crystal jewelry to act as an amplifier. You can even charge your evil eye pendant with a crystal’s energy when you’re not wearing it. However, the specific crystals you choose will depend on your evil eye’s color.

Blue Evil Eye

Because it is closely associated to karma, blue has traditionally been the color associated with evil eye amulets. The blue evil eye deflects a curse’s negativity back on the person who cast it and ensures that everyone receives what they put out into the universe. The blue evil eye represents trust and serenity. It is useful for improving communication, stimulating creativity, and promoting peace and mindfulness. The blue evil eye resonates well with Lapis Lazuli and Black Tourmaline.

Light Blue Evil Eye

The light blue evil eye represents overall wellbeing, bringing your emotional, mental, and physical selves into alignment for perfect tranquility. It is a highly introspective, and it encourages you to broaden your perspective and learn everything you can. The light blue evil eye is associated with Aquamarine and Scolecite.

Red Evil Eye

The red evil eye has all of the qualities of fire: courage, vitality, passion, and luck. It gives you the confidence to overcome fear and self-imposed limitations so that you can chase your dreams. To amplify the red evil eye’s energy, use Carnelian and Bloodstone.

Orange Evil Eye

The orange evil eye represents happiness and creativity. It encourages you to become more involved in your community, and it helps you approach life from a perspective of fun, curiosity, and playfulness. If you have been stuck in a rut or if you are struggling to overcome a loss, the orange evil eye can help with the aid of Sunstone and Chrysocolla.

Yellow Evil Eye

The yellow evil eye is closely connected to health. It is especially helpful for guarding against physical afflictions and fatigue. On a mental level, the yellow evil eye promotes concentration and memory, and it also can relieve the effects of stress and anxiety. All of these abilities come together to promote a sunny optimism. The yellow evil eye resonates with Citrine and Sodalite.

Dark Green Evil Eye

The dark green evil eye symbolizes contentment. Ecstatic happiness is fleeting, but true contentment, based on gratitude and appreciation, lasts. The dark green evil eye helps you find this state of balance, which also gives you the freedom to pursue new ideas without fear. If there is something in your life that needs to change, the dark green evil eye will help you undergo this transformation. Enhance the dark green evil eye with Green Jasper and Obsidian.

Light Green Evil Eye

The light green evil eye represents success and health. It promotes an abundant mindset, which boosts your relaxation, enjoyment, and prosperity. As such, the light green evil eye harmonizes well with Peridot and Pyrite.

Purple Evil Eye

The purple evil eye stimulates the imagination. It helps you see your life from a new, divinely informed perspective. With this mindset, you are able to balance your life, remove obstacles, and soothe anxiety and hyperactivity. The purple evil eye is closely connected to Amethyst and Amber.

Pink Evil Eye

The pink evil eye is all about relationships. It strengthens your connections with your loved ones and promotes contentment and calm. The pink evil eye brings order to emotional chaos with the help of Rose Quartz and Selenite.

Brown Evil Eye

The color of the planet’s soil, the brown evil eye symbolizes nature. It develops your connection with the Earth, which in turn lends you some of the planet’s stability. From this mindset, you can feel more confident to seize new opportunities. The brown evil eye works well with nature crystals like Tree Agate and Petrified Wood.

Gray Evil Eye

The gray evil eye is a source of comfort. It is a great tool for those recovering from a loss, deep sorrow, or feelings of isolation. The gentle gray color is refreshingly simple, freeing you from the all-consuming, overwhelming elements of negative emotions. When you combine the gray evil eye with crystals like Lepidolite and Blue Lace Agate, you can work through your feelings and come to truly trust in the divine plan.

Black Evil Eye

The black evil eye symbolizes power and protection. It helps you focus your intentions to achieve what you want and influence others; in that way, it is a positive inversion of the evil eye curse. The black evil eye helps you step into your full potential with the help of Garnet and Gold Obsidian.

Whether you are looking for protection or to enhance another area of your life, there is an evil eye (and a crystal) for you!

Feeling the Feng Shui

Did you know that April 8th is International Feng Shui Awareness Day? You’ve probably heard the term before, but what does feng shui really mean?

Today, we’re learning more about this ancient Chinese philosophy, how you can apply it to your daily life, and the important position that crystals hold in a feng shui practice.

What is Feng Shui?

Feng shui brings together two Chinese words, “feng” (wind) and “shui” (water). Poetically, the term means “the way of wind and water.” Feng shui describes how the natural world directs the flow of Qi, or cosmic energy, in Taoist philosophy, and it is closely associated with ancient Chinese astrology.

Feng shui is all about natural positions. It uses the bagua (an energy map) to create a perfect balance between yin (divine feminine) and yang (divine masculine) and all five elements (earth, metal, fire, water, and wood) within your living space. Feng shui takes into account major astrological events and the commanding position, a space diagonal from the door that allows for optimal energy flow.

The Bagua Basics

The bagua, or energy map, is the most important tool for developing feng shui in your space. It has nine areas, oriented to your front entrance. The bagua is most effective when applied to your entire living space, but even if you live in a studio apartment or dorm room, the principles are still valid!

To help yourself find the bagua, enter your space and place the bagua map below in the center. Then, you will be able to enhance certain areas to affect different elements of your life.

Rear Left: Wealth and Prosperity (Xun)

The wealth and prosperity area is associated with the element of soft wood, like evergreen trees, and the southeast direction. This region is represented by the color purple, which carries a strong connection to royalty and the divine.

The wealth and prosperity area is all about attracting abundance. That does involve money, but true abundance is a much broader term. Abundance is about having a life that is comfortable and free from want in all areas of your life, including health, spirituality, interpersonal relationships, career, and leisure. The wealth and prosperity bagua also reminds you that there is always an opportunity for a fresh start.

Work with the wealth and prosperity area when you need to manifest abundance in your life, banish scarcity, or make a new start.

Wealth and Prosperity Crystals

If you are looking to make money specifically, use Cinnabar, Citrine or Pyrite. Emerald, Jade, and Green Aventurine are strong choices to attract abundance in a more holistic sense.

If you are content with your current prosperity levels, reach for Ruby. Ruby’s warm, nurturing energy will protect your success and happiness.

Since feng shui is all about position, you will also want to consider placing your wealth and prosperity crystals near other relevant symbols. If you have a specific goal you are working toward, place the crystal in front of a picture that represents that, or even leave a money crystal next to some coins. If you don’t have something that physically symbolizes the prosperity you’re looking for, you can use a written intention instead.

To get even more creative, put a plant in your wealth and prosperity area as your literal “money tree.” Place Amethyst or Moss Agate stones in the soil to attract prosperity and support the plant, and make sure you take good care of it!

Rear Middle: Fame and Reputation (Li)

The fame and reputation area corresponds to the south direction, the Summer Solstice, and the element of fire, which also ties into its fiery red color. This bagua isn’t about being a celebrity; it’s about being respected for the impact you make on the world.

Ask yourself questions like: Do I work hard? Do I make positive changes within my community? Do I live my life with integrity? When someone needs help, do they know they can come to me?

Enhancing the fame and reputation area can help your talents get recognized, whether you receive a promotion, are accepted into a competitive program, or are granted an award.

Fame and Reputation Crystals

If you are nervous about putting yourself out there, reach for Garnet, Goldstone, or Red Jasper. Carnelian, Red Calcite, and Red Tiger’s Eye can give you the energy and drive to make a positive impact on the people around you.

Finally, Moldaviteand Sunstone can help you stand out and get the recognition that you deserve!

Place these crystals near symbols of achievement, like diplomas or awards, or next to pictures of people who you admire and aspire to be like.

You can also add these crystals to a “blessing box” in this bagua. Pick a box, jar, or other container that you find visually pleasing, and place the crystals inside along with handwritten intentions.

Rear Right: Love and Relationships (Kun)

The love and relationship area is associated with the southwest direction, the color pink, and the most nurturing elements of yin and Mother Earth. This bagua isn’t just for attracting romance; it’s for building strong, mutually enriching relationships in every aspect of your life.

You can work with the love and relationship area to attract and strengthen specific relationships, including marriages, friendships, business partnerships, and familial relationships.

Love and Relationships Crystals

The crystals you add to your love and relationships area depend on the relationships that you are looking to attract or strengthen.

For marriages and long-term romantic relationships, choose Garnet, Rhodochrosite, or Rose Quartz. Friendships and familial relationships benefit from Iolite, Morganite, and Green Opal, and Emerald and Unakite deepen professional partnerships.

For an extra boost to your relationship, arrange the crystals into pairs. You may also want to add relevant objects, like pictures or keepsakes that relate to the relationship.

If you are searching for a new romantic partner, meditate on your ideal romantic relationship, create a poem or piece of art, and place it behind your love and relationship crystal.

Middle Left: Family and Health (Zhen)

The family and health area is associated with the east direction, the Spring Equinox, the color green, and the hard wood element. This bagua explores the ways our mental, emotional, and physical health need to be in balance for true wellness, and it acknowledges the roles our family plays in achieving that balance—both genetically and on an emotional level.

Family and Health Crystals

Crystals have played an important role in folk medicine for centuries, and they are a great supplement to (although NOT a replacement for) modern medicine. Many crystal healers have recognized Amethyst, Unakite, and Iolite for assisting with addictive behavior, Howlite, Malachite, and Chrysoprase for anxiety, Smoky Quartz for stress, and Serpentine for overall wellbeing.

You can also address many emotional issues at the root with crystals that relate to family. Smooth over family conflict with Fuchsite, Tiger Iron, and Brown Tourmaline, and heal generational trauma with Bloodstone and Black Obsidian. If you have a particularly troubled relationship with your family that has resulted in limited contact, Morganite and Rhodochrosite can help connect you with universal love and create a “found family.” To bring your family, blood or “found,” closer together, use Ruby or Garnet.

Add any of these healing crystals to your Family and Health area along with images of your family members to promote everyone’s wellbeing.

Center: Spiritual Wellbeing (Tai Qi)

The center bagua is the most important: spiritual wellbeing. Spirituality ties all the baguas together, and having a strong spirituality makes it easier to achieve balance when one of the other areas may be compromised.

Spiritual wellbeing is associated with the Earth element and the yellow and brown shades. It is all about achieving profound peace, harmony, and security through a connection to the divine. This bagua is the place to celebrate your spiritual beliefs, and it is perfect for meditation practices, prayers, deity worship, rituals, and other spiritual activities.

Spiritual Wellbeing Crystals

To promote spiritual wellbeing, you want to look for crystals that resonate strongly with your Third Eye and Crown Chakras. Since this bagua is in the center of the home, we also recommend using geodes and clusters that can raise the vibrations of the entire space.

Amazonite, Aquamarine, Moonstone, Snowflake Obsidian, and Tourmaline will assist you along your spiritual journey. You can boost your meditation practice with Fluorite and Selenite and promote communication with angels and spirit guides with Angelite and Celestite.

Spiritual growth also requires protection. Jet and Black Tourmaline are great overall protection crystals, and Amethyst, Black Obsidian, and Smoky Quartz offer extra psychic protection.

You can also help keep your practice as focused as possible with energy cleansers like Clear Quartz and Green Fluorite and anti-EMF stones like Shungite and Lepidolite.

Middle Right: Children and Creativity (Dui)

The children and creativity area of your home is associated with the west direction, the Autumnal Equinox, the soft metal element (gold, silver, and platinum), and its color correspondences include white, light gray, metallics, and pastels.

This area celebrates creative energy in all of all of its forms, including the arts, children, innovative perspectives, and connecting with your inner child. While this area is obviously helpful for building a stronger relationship with your children and healing your own childhood trauma, you can also enhance this area when you are looking for a creative solution to a problem, working on an artistic endeavor, or starting a project.

Children and Creativity Crystals

You can inspire creativity with stones like Citrine, Cinnabar, Iolite, and Ruby and banish creative blocks with Carnelian and Orange Calcite. If you need some help with innovative decision-making, reach for Bloodstone or Hematite.

If you are seeking fertility, Carnelian, Red Calcite, and Spirit Quartz can help. Moss Agate and Malachite also assist with pregnancy and childbirth.

To access your inner child, work with Dioptase. You can then soothe your children and your own inner child with Amethyst, Ametrine, Lapis Lazuli, Lepidolite, Moonstone, or Rose Quartz.

Place children and creativity crystals in front of images of your children, grandchildren, or yourself as a child. You can also add sentimental childhood items, like a favorite toy.

Front Left: Knowledge and Wisdom (Gen)

The knowledge and wisdom area is associated with the northeast direction, the color blue, and the mountain earth element, represented by crystals, mountains, deserts, beaches, and stones.

This bagua is all about personal development. It encourages learning, expanding your skillset, and dedication to your practice.

The knowledge and wisdom area is the perfect place for studying, but it is also related to physical activities like yoga, martial arts, and meditation and practicing skills like music and crafting.

Knowledge and Wisdom Crystals

You can enhance your knowledge and wisdom area with a variety of crystals. Aquamarine, Hematite, and Obsidian promote learning, and Carnelian, Labradorite, and Lepidolite can boost your analytical abilities. If you struggle with concentration, reach for Fluorite or
Agate
, and Azurite and Howlite boost your memory.

Add these crystals to your knowledge and wisdom area along with books, school supplies, and other symbols of learning. You can even create a crystal and book “mountain” to resonate with the element of Mountain Earth.

Front Middle: Career and Life Path (Kan)

The career and life path area is associated with the north direction, the Winter Solstice, the water element, and the colors black, dark blue, and deep purple. This area goes beyond simply getting a job to earn money; it helps you craft a career that is personally fulfilling and impactful. Your career and life path area may address a job, but it also includes hobbies, activities, and callings outside of earning money.

Career and Life Path Crystals

The career and life path area is key to creating a fulfilling life.

If you are focusing directly on your career, Aventurine and Petrified Wood can invite new opportunities. Crystals can also help enhance certain career skills like communication (Aqua Aura Quartz, Blue Calcite, and Blue Lace Agate), networking (Kyanite), and organizational skills (Jasper and Lapis Lazuli). Try placing career crystals in front of something that represents your job, like tools, business cards, articles about your achievements, or images of other famous people in your field.

To take a more holistic approach and focus on your life path, crystals like Amethyst, Ametrine, Auralite 23, Clear Quartz, and Obsidian can help you find your true purpose and direction. When life feels overwhelming, Apache Tear Obsidian, Iolite, and Charoite remind you to go with the flow.

Front Right: Helpful People and Travel (Qian)

The helpful people and travel area is associated with the northwest direction, the hard metal element (strongly associated with space, iron, and titanium), and colors like gray, white, black, and the rainbow.

This bagua focuses on the mentorship that we receive from the people in our lives and spiritual figures like ancestors, deities, and angels. It also highlights how travel itself can be a mentor, opening you up to new places, experiences, and cultures.

Helpful People and Travel Crystals

You can connect with ancestors and mentors through Obsidian, Moqui Marbles, and Onyx. If you need assistance from angels or spirit guides, use Angel Aura Quartz, Angelite, Apophyllite, Celestite, and Moldavite.

Sometimes, however, a helpful person isn’t someone else; it’s you. When you need to access your highest self, use Danburite, Fluroite, Moonstone, Phantom Quartz, Rainbow Obsidian, Spirit Quartz, or Tourmaline.

Place any of these crystals in your helpful people and travel area along with a thoughtful letter about the kind of help you need, and the universe will answer.

Travel is also a powerful teacher, but sometimes fear keeps us from accessing it. If you experience travel anxiety, use Labradorite, Moonstone, or Turquoise. Wherever you roam, Aquamarine, Yellow Tiger’s Eye, and Yellow Jasper will keep you safe, and Hematite can help ease the effects of jet lag. Store these crystals with souvenirs from your travels or brochures, magazines, and postcards from places you still want to visit!

If you’ve never dipped your toe into the world of feng shui, don’t be afraid to start small! Identify one bagua that you want to enhance, and focus on that first. Then, you can truly feel the feng shui and explore the other baguas at your leisure. Happy decorating!

How We Ethically Source Crystals

Crystals are amazing. They enhance our lives in so many ways, and My Dream Crystals is deeply honored to connect our clients with the stones they need.

However, like most industries, there are environmental and social impacts related to crystal mining. While ethical crystal sourcing is definitely possible, it takes extra care and dedication to ensure. That’s why we always recommend talking to your crystal vendors about who they source from.

What To Look For in Ethical Crystals

Crystals travel from deep within the Earth and across multiple countries before they find their way to a crystal shop and ultimately to you. Tracking their provenance is key to finding out whether the crystals were sourced ethically.

When you look for ethical crystals, you want to look for:

  • Short Supply Chains: The best way to ensure a crystal is ethically sourced is to get the shortest supply chain possible. Mines don’t always sell directly to crystal shops. Typically, a lapidary, which polishes and cuts the stones, serves as the intermediary between the mines and a gemstone wholesaler or crystal shop. A lapidary with direct connections to the mine will be able to provide more information about where the crystal came from and how it was mined, allowing vendors to keep track of the mining process.
  • Safe Mining Conditions: Mining is very dangerous work, and a good mine will not just have clearly displayed safety standards to protect their workers—they will enforce them, too.
  • Safe Lapidary Conditions: Polishing crystals can be dangerous, exposing workers to fumes, particles, and chemicals. Thankfully, these risks can be easily avoided with the proper equipment, and ethical vendors will look to source crystals from a lapidary that takes these proper precautions.
  • Fair Wages: It’s important that miners and lapidary workers are compensated at a rate that provides a living wage in their local area.
  • Environmental-Friendly Mining Techniques: Since mining involves drilling into the Earth, it can obviously have a negative environmental impact. However, ethical mines are able to minimize their impact by taking precautions, like avoiding contaminating groundwater with metals and acid. In general, smaller scale mines, which are often family owned and operated, are more likely to prioritize environmental impact (as well as miner safety).
  • Avoiding By-Product Sourcing: Some crystals are sourced as a byproduct to mining precious ore like gold and copper. The deposits are not large enough to be mined for the crystals themselves, but if they are discovered in the process of getting ore, they will be sold. These massive mining operations often involve reckless environmental standards and even child labor, so by-product crystals are typically mined under unethical conditions.
  • Access to the Owner: The number one way to make sure that a crystal is ethically sourced is having direct access to the owner of the mine, lapidary, and/or wholesaler. Ethical crystal vendors will have personal relationships with the people they source from, and they are able to contact them with any questions about the crystal stock.

Highlighting One of Our Partners

On of our favorite crystals at The My Dream Crystal’s is Congo Citrine. This crystal is rare, which can open the door to less than ethical mining practices. However, our main vendor works closely with various communities in Africa to make sure that their crystals are sourced ethically.

Our vendor is situated in solar-powered facilities in South Africa’s Lower Mpushini Valley Conservancy. They focus on sourcing their crystals from small deposits that are mined by hand and without removing precious Baobab trees, minimizing environmental impact.

Our vendor works directly with the mines and supports about 800 African miners, many of whom live in rural areas with struggling economies. They take the miners’ welfare directly into account, and the owners and employees are truly members of their local community.

Is it possible to certify or say 100% of our crystals are ethically sourced? Unfortunately, no it is not, but we will always try to vet our suppliers to the best of our ability. Please feel free to ask us any questions about where a specific stone comes from!
